With the first two matchweeks of the 2023-24 Premier League season in the books, we have already learned quite a bit about what lies ahead.
A Daytona winner from outside the 15 playoff-confirmed drivers is highly unlikely to impact the playoffs — but a repeat winner could make the championship race even more exciting.

  • LV Running Back #28
Reed’s report is via “league sources.” Reed also reports the team is not considering rescinding Jacobs’ franchise tag or making an enhanced one-year offer, a la Saquon Barkley in New York. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported last Saturday that Jacobs intends to report before Week 1. It remains his only real option unless he wants to begin missing game checks.
  • TEN Wide Receiver #16
Burks is in a race against time after being carted from the field eight days ago. With only 17 more deals to heal up, it is a bit difficult to believe he will be ready for the opener against the Saints, though teams routinely push the envelope in these situations. Our first real clue as to Burks’ Week 1 status may not come until the Titans issue their initial injury report on Wednesday Sept. 6.
  • IND Running Back #28
Barry Jackson reports the ‘Fins “continue to engage the Colts in negotiations.” Jackson also confirms the Colts are seeking a first-round pick or something commensurate. Jackson reports “at least one other team also believed to have made a serious offer.” It is beginning to sound like this might actually happen. The Dolphins make all the sense in the world as a landing spot.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #10
Rapoport reports Jeudy’s injury as a “moderate hamstring injury” that puts his Week 1 status in jeopardy. However, he also said there’s “optimism it’s nothing long term” in regards to any season-long concerns over his injury. With Jeudy now sidelined for the foreseeable future, Courtland Sutton and rookie receiver Marvin Mims have a chance to step up to fill the void left by Denver’s WR1. Mims and Sutton will most likely serve as the Broncos’ two outside receivers, while legendary COVID-QB. Kendall Hinton replaces Jeudy in the slot. Jeudy’s status will be one to monitor in the coming weeks.
  • WAS Wide Receiver #17
McLaurin’s sprained toe is “typically a multiple-week injury,” as Schefter points out. By the time Week 1 rolls around, McLaurin will have been 19 days removed from his injury, which puts him at the back end for the two to three-week timetable that was suggested earlier this week. If McLaurin is unable to go in Week 1, Jahan Dotson would have some high-end WR2 upside against a Cardinals defense that figures to rank near the bottom of the league.
  • SEA Safety #33
Adams’ 2022 was lost to a torn quadriceps that he suffered in Week 1. Since being acquired from the Jets in 2020, Adams has appeared in 25 of a possible 50 games, as he’s battled a number of injuries in recent years. When healthy, Adams is among the league’s best safeties, proving to be a force in pass coverage and against the run. He and Bobby Wagner will look to form a formidable unit and improve on last year’s defense that allowed the seventh most yards and eighth most points per game last season.
  • IND Running Back #28
In other words, it sounds like the Dolphins aren’t interested in overpaying for Jonathan Taylor or any other top back. The Colts’ asking price for Taylor is reportedly high, leaving some to question whether or not a trade will get done before next Tuesday’s deadline the Colts have put forth. Wolfe also reports the Dolphins reached out to the Raiders about Josh Jacobs earlier this year, but the Raiders said they have no plans on trading Jacobs at this time.
  • MIN Tight End #87
Hockenson reportedly wants a contract that will “reset the market” for tight ends. The former first-round pick has been sidelined for most of camp with an ear infection and back soreness, which has left some to speculate whether or not he’s strategically “holding in” while waiting for a new deal. The Vikings acquired Hockenson for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick around last year’s trade deadline. He went on to post a receiving line of 60-519-3 in 10 games with the team and had career-highs in receptions (86) and yards (914) when all was said and done. Now in the final year of his rookie deal, Hockenson undoubtedly deserves a new contract before the start of this season, but he and the team are understandably at odds over what he deserves. There’s still time for things to resolve themselves, but it will be interesting to see what his status is heading into Week 1 if a new deal isn’t in place.
  • IND Running Back #28
In addition to the deadline, Holder also reports that six teams have spoken to the Colts about a trade for Taylor, with two teams extending them a trade offer. Next Tuesday is a significant day on the NFL calendar because it’s roster cut-down day when teams must be down to 53 men. Taylor is currently on the active/PUP list and could remain on the list if the team opts not to trade him. If he’s moved to the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday, he’ll be required to miss the first four games of the regular season. Ideally, the Colts would find a way to trade Taylor before then, but teams may be unwilling to offer the compensation Indy hopes to get for the star back. The Dolphins are the only team we know to be in on Taylor at this time. It would obviously be horrible for his fantasy stock if he were to miss regular season games.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said earlier that Davis was at risk of missing Week 1 against the Bills but wouldn’t get into specifics. Now we know why. The former No. 5 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft appears ready to call it quits after six seasons. Davis was selected by the Titans out of Western Michigan and joined the Jets in 2021. While he never lived up to his lofty draft capital, the veteran receiver posted a career-high 984 yards and five touchdowns in 2020 and was a solid WR2 for the Jets over two seasons. His retirement permanently elevates Allen Lazard to the Jets’ WR2 role and makes him a low-end WR3 option alongside teammate Aaron Rodgers.
