NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) “is expected to miss several weeks.

Rapoport reports Jeudy’s injury as a “moderate hamstring injury” that puts his Week 1 status in jeopardy. However, he also said there’s “optimism it’s nothing long term” in regards to any season-long concerns over his injury. With Jeudy now sidelined for the foreseeable future, Courtland Sutton and rookie receiver Marvin Mims have a chance to step up to fill the void left by Denver’s WR1. Mims and Sutton will most likely serve as the Broncos’ two outside receivers, while legendary COVID-QB. Kendall Hinton replaces Jeudy in the slot. Jeudy’s status will be one to monitor in the coming weeks.

Broncos HC Sean Payton said the team could use TE Greg Dulcich in a “Joker” role this season.

That’s a fancy way of saying the team could use Dulcich all over the field to create and exploit mismatches. Despite the addition of Adam Trautman, who worked under Payton in New Orleans, Saints beat writer Nick Kosmider believes Dulcich will “remain the top tight-end target” for the Broncos this season. Dulcich caught 33 passes for 411 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie campaign, and that was despite missing seven games. His per-game numbers put him on pace for 699 yards, which offers a slight look at what kind of ceiling he could have this season. Dulcich is being drafted as a low-end TE1 but could have some sneaky high upside in a Broncos offense that should be much improved.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jerry Jeudy was carted off the field with an apparent hamstring injury.

Any major injury to Jeudy would be brutal for the Broncos, who have already lost Tim Patrick to a torn Achilles. We don’t yet know the extent of his injury but will provide an update when we know more. Jeudy figures to be the No. 1 receiver in Denver’s offense this season and is fresh off a career year in which he totaled 67 receptions for 972 yards and six touchdowns, despite playing in an offense that ranked dead last in points per game. Should Jeudy miss any time, veteran Courtland Sutton and rookie Marvin Mims would both see significant boosts in their fantasy stock.

Broncos restructured the contract of DT Mike Purcell.

Purcell was set to earn $3.5 million in salary and per-game roster bonuses, according to 9News’ Mike Klis. Now, he’ll earn $2.25 million with an additional $1.25 million available in playtime incentives, which starts at 25 percent of snaps. Purcell totaled 45 tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Broncos last season and has appeared in 13 or more games in three of the last four seasons.

Broncos WR Jalen Virgil has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus.

Virgil reportedly requires “full” meniscus surgery, as opposed to a “trim.” That would likely knock him out for the season. Virgil wasn’t on track for an offensive role in Sean Payton’s new offense, but his loss would thin already questionable depth and create a hole on special teams.

Javonte Williams rushed three times for 12 yards in the Broncos’ preseason game against the 49ers, adding four catches for 18 yards.

Denver’s first four plays all went to Williams. His first opportunity was a bungled screen, but he made up for the mistake with four catches in the first half, good for a team-high through 30 minutes. Williams split reps with Samaje Perine and stayed in the game after Russell Wilson left. It was remarkable to see Sean Payton pepper him with touches in his first game back from a catastrophic knee injury. All signs point to Williams being fully recovered from the injury and ready to take on a hefty workload by Week 1.

Broncos HC Sean Payton said Javonte Williams will play 10 to 12 snaps in Saturday’s preseason game against the 49ers.

In addition to the total number of snaps Williams is expected to play, he’s also scheduled to see three to four carries. It will be an understandably light workload for Williams, who continues to work his way back from last year’s torn ACL. Assuming Williams’ knee holds up this season, he figures to be a mid-round steal based on his current ADP.

Broncos HC Sean Payton confirmed RB Javonte Williams will play Saturday against the 49ers.

This report once again confirms Williams’ status as being ahead of the proposed rehab schedule off his ACL tear, and places him in line to start in Week 1 for the Broncos. Williams is cementing his status as an early draft steal in the eighth and ninth rounds.

Broncos rookie RB Jaleel McLaughlin has “been a standout” this preseason that “seems to break a run every day.”

McLaughlin capped the only drive he played in the preseason opener with a four-yard touchdown. The undrafted rookie is the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher, running for over 8,000 yards between Division II and FCS Youngstown State. McLaughlin is a candidate for the RB3 role in an offense that added only Samaje Perine and Tony Jones behind Javontae Williams this offseason.

NBC’s Mike Florio reports the Chiefs and Broncos are among the teams interested in Raiders RB Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs turned down a $12 million offer from the Raiders last month. There are rumors the Raiders could rescind the franchise tender if they don’t trade Jacobs, making him a free agent and taking $10 million off the cap. With the sides not close on a long-term deal, a trade may end up the most likely outcome for last year’s rushing champ.
